Eddie Howe wants Newcastle to stay as long as he is “happy”

Newcastle United is undergoing a lot of changes off the field, and manager Eddie Howe is being connected to the national squad.

In the midst of rumors surrounding the open England position, Eddie Howe says he wants to continue at Newcastle United as long as he is “happy” in his role.

Following the Three Lions’ loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, Gareth Southgate announced his resignation as manager on Tuesday.

The CEO of Newcastle, Darren Eales, expressed confidence that they might retain Southgate on Tyneside, despite reports that Howe is one of the front-runners to take his place.

Nonetheless, the team is going through off-season changes: James Bunce and Paul Mitchell have been named performance director and sporting director, respectively, and co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi have gone.

Howe made a suggestion in an interview at Newcastle’s preseason training camp in Germany that those changes within the team would have an impact on his role.

“All of this is about Newcastle, and I’m really grateful to be their manager,” Howe remarked. It is not related to England. Thus, I haven’t considered anything but Newcastle as long as I am content, feel supported, and am free to work however I want to.

“I adore the club beyond measure. I adore those who have supported me. In my career, I’m happy where I am. I couldn’t be in a better situation. I feel that way.

The football team has seen a great deal of change this summer. For all those involved with the club, this summer has been extremely challenging. Every shift brings with it a fresh emotion.

You may mention PSR, Amanda, Mehrdad, and the new sporting director, which naturally has an impact on me. All of them are significant adjustments. This needs to work for Newcastle, which is why I’ve made the comments that I have.

The focus is not on me as the manager. I’m not very relevant. Making sure Newcastle is as strong as it can be for the upcoming season and beyond is the main goal. Together, we must ensure that we are the force that we wish to be.

“Change is happening right now; it just happened. I’m not sure where that will end up, to be honest.”

Howe acknowledged that he did not find the job very appealing, but he did not completely rule out leaving Newcastle to take up the role of manager of England should the FA approach him.

“I think England is a very special job for someone,” he stated. “I’m not afraid to admit that I have a strong sense of patriotism.

“I cherish my nation. I want the best for my nation. The fact that Gareth and the boys did not win the Euros devastated me for them.

But at some point, I don’t feel like I have to finish that assignment. If that happens in the future, it will be on my behalf.

Should that not be the case, I am incredibly content with my current position. The daily operations.

During my second term at Bournemouth, I encountered this circumstance frequently, but overall, I was rather content with my surroundings and daily activities. Therefore, I  had no urge to go. My capacity to accomplish my job and my enjoyment have always been my main motivators.”
