Gundogan joined Man City until June 2025

Manchester City and Ilkay Gundogan have already verbally agreed to terms for his deal. He’ll sign for a season and an optional one, arriving as a free agent.

In only a few hours, Ilkay Gundogan will be a different Manchester City player altogether. Following the termination of his contract with Barcelona this summer, the German football player will rejoin the Sky Blues.

Journalists Fabrizio Romano and “RAC1,” as well as “Onda Cero,” verified the verbal arrangement the player and the British team had reached for his return to the Etihad Stadium.

Barcelona has chosen to release Gundogan in order to sign Dani Olmo; therefore, the German midfielder will join Manchester City on a free transfer.

The Cityzens, who had not intended to sign their former player until the previous season, have had the opportunity to do so in recent days. But Barcelona’s requirement to let him go—and for nothing—presents Pep Guardiola’s team with a business opportunity.

Hence, the Santpedor coach will be able to get back the player who has been one of his most valuable assets in the Premier League and who has always been underappreciated at both City and Barcelona.
