The essential qualities that Riccardo Calafiori provides to Arsenal’s Premier League title campaign are outlined by Martin Odegaard

Captain of Arsenal Martin Odegaard is optimistic that Riccardo Calafiori, a recent addition, would provide the team with a significant boost in the upcoming season.

Arsenal acted swiftly to finalize a transfer agreement worth roughly €45 million ($48 million) to get him, following a stellar season with Bologna.

Mikel Arteta had yet another frustrating season in 2023–24 as Manchester City won their fourth Premier League trophy in a row and his squad was once again unable to win the championship.

During crucial points in the season, Arsenal’s incapacity to defeat City sparked concerns about their experience and mental toughness, and Arteta has since added the steely Calafiori to his team.

Along with his flexibility as a left-back and central defense player, the Italian international earned a reputation as a tough operator. Odegaard believes that his tenacity and quality will bring something unique to the team.

According to statements from the Metro, “I think everyone has seen straightaway in training that he’s a top player and a top defender, physically.”

He exudes confidence on the field, and I have no doubt that he will contribute greatly. I’m excited to see more from him, and we’re glad to have him on board.”

What is Arsenal paying the transfer fee for Riccardo Calafiori?

The move of Calafiori to Arsenal cost a significant amount, about €45 million ($48 million).

A sell-on clause in his transfer agreement stipulates that Basel, his former team, will get a sizable chunk of the money in the summer of 2023.

With the permanent transfer of David Raya from Brentford at £30 million ($38 million), this is Arsenal’s first summer acquisition.
