Yoro’s arrival at Manchester United is announced

It is anticipated that United will have paid the French club an additional £52.2 million (€62 million), or £58.9 million (€70 million).

Yoro signs a five-year contract at Old Trafford with the option for an additional year as part of the move, which is pending registration.

“It’s an amazing honor to sign with a team as prestigious and ambitious as Manchester United at such a young age,” Yoro tweeted.

“Since our initial talks, the club has taken great care of my family and myself, and they have laid out a clear plan for how I can grow in Manchester as part of this exciting initiative.

“I feel that Manchester United, together with my new teammates, can be the ideal venue for me to realize my potential and accomplish my goals because of the club’s history of producing young players. I am eager to get going.”

Yoro had only one year left on his Lille contract, having played just 46 games in Ligue 1, 38 of which were as a starter. Real Madrid reportedly shown interest in signing the talented young defender in spite of this.

Therefore, United moved quickly to outbid Madrid and other possible suitors in an attempt to recruit at least one center-back during this transfer window.

In an effort to strengthen its defense even more, Erik ten Hag’s team may potentially make another move to sign Jarrad Branthwaite or Matthijs de Ligt.

For the time being, Yoro and Lisandro Martinez—who was sidelined for a significant portion of the previous season due to injury—will be paired by United manager Ten Hag.

Martinez’s absence hindered United’s ability to play out of the back. In an effort to enhance their build-up play, Andre Onana took the place of veteran goalkeeper David de Gea.

Yoro should be able to make an instant difference in that area despite his lack of experience, as he demonstrated last season when he completed 92.1% of his passes in Ligue 1.

The only United player to attempt more than one pass in the Premier League in 2023–24 was Martinez (92.2%).

With an injury-ravaged club, Harry Maguire started more games than any other center-back (18), yet he lagged behind in that statistic, finishing only 83.1% of his passes.

Yoro’s physical dominance in defense does not yet match that of Raphael Varane or Maguire, but Jean-Michel Vandamme, the head of Lille’s academy, has likened him to the France World Cup champion.

About the player, United Sporting Director Dan Ashworth stated, “He has all the qualities required to become a premier center defender.”
